Long QT Syndrome

by Sara, Aug 28, 1999 12:00AM
I have recently been hearing a lot about Long QT Syndrome, which has something to do with an irregular heartbeat, that can be deadly. I think some of the symptoms are a quick heartbeat and fainting. I have had three fainting spells in the past, and my heartbeat is sometimes up to 120 beats a minute, at rest. Do you think that could be what it is?

Is a Stress Test something that could tell if I had this? Is it something you can get at any doctor's office, or do you have to go to a specialist?

Thanks, Sara

Dear Sara,

You could be experiencing a whole host of arrythmias that may cause this syndrome.  I suggest you see a cardiologist to discuss these symptoms.  They may suggest a Holter monitor to record these episodes as well as a a stress test to rule out any significant disease.
