Long QT Syndrome

Posted By Donna on March 29, 1998 at 17:48:05:

Having a history of fatal suspected heart deaths in my family (two 31-year-old brothers & a 50-year-old father), I am being tested for the reason for my arrythmias.  No far no cause has been found.  Doc has put me on Acebutlol (beta blocker) to help with the symptoms.  I watched a medical program called "Pulse" and they discussed Long QT Syndrome which causes fatality in mostly young adults and teens.  The symptoms were similar to mine and to my brother's who died with no prior warning signs.  It was noted that this is rare and hereditary and little is known of this in the medical community.  I will check with my cardiologist about this when I can get an appt, but in the meantime, can anyone give me further information about this, as I can find little info on the INternet.  Thank You.  This is something that can be found on an EKG, which mine was irregular every test, but this was never mentioned as a possibility.
