Longevity from stents

Longevity from stents

I have 2 stents in my LAD as of 1-22-08 - I am 65 yr of age.  My cholesterol went from fine to 212 LAD fine to 140 normal Tryglycerides.

I am interested in knowing if there is any research on average mortality after stents or average years lost from life secondary to CAD that needs stents.

I do have a strong family history of early life sudden deaths 35-50) on my Fathers side - though he lived until 87yrs with significant venous insufficiencies.  I have thin skin, bruise easily and still have some anginal spasms - which I never had before the stents, one episode of severe chest pain 4-10-08 with recath and no blockage..  My only indication for the cardiac workup was a fleeting sense of what felt like Hypoglycemia - I also had started a new job 3 yrs ago that I love - unfortunately a very high stress job - that I have resigned from as of this week.
UGI endoscopy WNL. MRI heart shows anterior ischemia - which showed up on the Thallium stress test.

I ask the question because as we plan our retirement - it would help to know the averages.

Thank you

According to the information provided you never had a heart attack.  This really is in your favor because that's what affects mortality with CAD the most.  People with stable or fixed CAD and stable heart function such as yourself have a slightly lower survival compared to normal controls but with medications and good medical follow up the difference is very small.  On the other hand, heart attack survivor may have an annual mortality 5% above the normal controls.  The disease process and its medical therapy combined with ventricular function and age are strong determinant of your survival.  The stents are not in your situation (unlike in the heart attack survivors).  I think that you are in good shape.  Make sure that you eat well and exercise, no red meat.  Increase your vegetable protein intake.  Make sure your LDL is close to 70 and your HDL greater than 45.
