Losing my mind?

I am a 53 year old female. I had open heart surgery in 2002 and was on bypass I was told for about 4 hours. Then in 2006 I had a heart transplant and again was on the bypass about 4 more hours. I do have memory problems. Are these after 4 years most likely going to permanent memory loss?

That would be a very difficult question for anyone to answer accurately. There are a few theories to what happens to the brain during surgery but one that many accept is the mini mini stroke. When vessels are clamped, tiny pieces of plaque probably break free and end up in the brain cause very tiny strokes.
One thing I have to ask is if you are on statin medication? Some patients have been reported to have memory problems from this, for example, one Doctor wrote of a patient who was an accountant and lost the ability to do math.
