Low HDL

Low HDL

Posted By John Alk on January 15, 1999 at 18:49:22:

Hi,
Results from recent physical:  LDL 124;  HDL 32;  Ratio 5.4
MY MD told me that low my HDL is a high risk factor for heart disease.  He mentioned Niacin as a potential treatment.
I'm 34 and work out all the time so increased exercise is not an option.
Also, I rarely eat red meat.  Eat a ton of fish, pasta, fruit and vegetables.
Is my HDL low because of genetic reasons or dietary reasons?
How can I increase my HDL?
Thanks for your help.
