Low Heart Rate

Posted By Todd Williams on July 20, 1999 at 11:32:29
I'm 34, last September I had Aortic aneurysm/valve repair - recovery was great - now play hockey, run 3 miles, 3-4 times a week etc.  I was put on 50mg Troprol XL per day to reduce the chance of other aneurysms developing.  I have very few side effects - I sometimes get a little light headed if I stand up quickly, when I exercise, the first few minutes are very tough.  I check my BP and heart rate weekly and my heart rate is now in the high 40's and low 50's while sitting.  Prior to surgery, mid 50's to 60's was normal - even when I was twenty when I was in a lot better shape and before my valve was leaking it was usually right around 60.  My blood pressure is usually about 120 / 83.  Is the low heart rate a concern?  Should I talk to my doctor about lowering my dose of Troprol?  Thanks.
