Low Pulse and Hot Tub

Low Pulse and Hot Tub

Just in recent days, my pulse rate has dropped to 40-45 and I have experienced dizzy spells when standing from a sitting position. A visit to my doctor yesterday indicated atrial fibrillation after an EKG. I started a 5 mg. dose of warfarin sodium yesterday. I am to see a cardiologist later in the week. In the meantime, I am wondering what sort of activities I should avoid. I normally use the hot tub in the morning to relax my stiff back. Is that a problem? i play a lot of golf and walk and carry my bag usually. Is that a problem?

In my opinion you can do everything that you are able to, what is important be sure you are not alone, but with friends and family around.

“A study at the Mayo Clinic found that since bathing in your hot tub simulates exercise, soaking in one gives you the same health benefits of exercise — with less stress to the heart! A hot tub increases the heart rate while lowering blood pressure, instead of raising it as does other forms of exercise.”

Good golfing to you! Take care.

When I go to the health center to workout, I also use the hot tub 106 degress, and there is a warning of 15 minutes max.  The tub timer is set for 15 minute intervals as does the steam room.  In addition to the above a hot tub can raise body temperatures and I don't believe one sweats to cool off in the hot tub so there is no way to prevent over exposture and the condition can cause a heat stroke...the same results as being in a hot climate.

Elevated body temperature may increase the effect of Warfarin. Be careful to avoid becoming overheated, especially during hot weather, steamroom, or a hot tub.

Hope this helps.  Thanks for your question, take care
