Low blood pressure after exercise

Low blood pressure after exercise

After exercise my blood pressure sometimes seems a bit low. It's usually a 'normal' 120/80 or thereabouts. I went on a 40 minute bike ride last night, about 20 mins after getting home I checked BP while I was standing and it was 97/68, felt drained and a bit hot. Tis also happens when I've had a long hot bath and know this is because the blood vessels relax.

I spend maybe 5 minutes cooling down before the end of the bike ride, any ideas what this is and how it can be avoided?

This is normal, your blood vessels, arteries and capillaries are dilated from the exercise due to the demand of the large muscle groups. This usually last for an hour or two after a vigorous exercise and results in low blood pressure as your arteries are more relaxed and your capillaries are more open leaving more blood volume in your muscle. Happens to me when I work out every day, within a few hours I'm back to normal.

Totally normal.
