Lyme disease and stenosis

Posted by Jean on July 01, 1999 at 10:18:31
My son (3 yrs) was recently bitten by a tick but so far shows no sign of Lyme disease.  He also has Pulmonic valvular stenosis.  Should I give him antibiotics as a cautionary measure against endocarditis, or is this type of bacteria not a concern for him?

Dear Jean
There is no good reason to give him antibiotics after a tick bite to prevent endocarditis. However, if you think he is at risk for Lyme disease because of the region you live in, you should have him evaluated by his pediatrician for that reason.
I hope this has been useful. I wish you the best of luck. Feel free to write back.
