MCG test???? accuracy??

Hi, does anyone know how accurate an mcg test is. I have discomfort in my chest, stomach, upper back and neck....I received 2 EKG, an echocardiogram, 2 sets of bloodwork, was put on a heart, bloodpressure and oxegen monitor, chest xray....all came out normal. I had a stress test today and don't have the results but the dr said she thinks i did well. However, my mcg test scored a 5.8 which is a high score........any advice??

My stress came out negative. My dr said i did so well that i was pushed on their above average! She said she has ruled out heart probs and that she thinks its a combo of acid reflux (which i just recently got) and nerve/muscular aches in the back and chest area........thanks so much for all your advice!

Because my poor cardiac behavior early in life resulting in lots of heart problems and procedures, and because I was able to clean up my cardiac behavior late in life, I'm a cardiac navigator in a hospital, working with patients with questions.  Your type of question is often asked.  Doctors tell me that they want to establish a baseline for patients who have heart issues, and the more tests they can perform, the better the baseline.  The MCG calculation simply gives them more information and its a relatively low cost procedure.  It sounds like you are getting very good cardiac care.

erijon gives you great advice, you had good tests, time to relax as long as the stress test comes out OK, which I'll bet it does.

I think you'll be fine. these test are often likely to be false positives. Since everything else looks good and you have pretty decent cholesterol I'm guessing your MCG won't amount to much. Also, women in their childbearing years are usually protected from heart disease.

Try to relax, you were tested pretty well, I'm pretty sure if there was anything seriously wrong it would have been caught.

Thanks Jon...Question or advice if you can.....

I had 2 sets of bloodwork (one which was in the ER)
chest xray
echocardiogram
2 EKG (one which was in the ER)
was put on a heart monitor in the ER for hours
was put on  a oxeyen monitor in the ER for hours
was put on a blood pressure monitor in the ER for hours
blood pressure checked a few time by my dr
cholesterol is 205
had a simple stress test which the dr thinks is fine but i am waiting for the final report(she didn't want me to have nuclear since i am only 33
don't smoke, don't drink
Do you think it's odd that i didn't do well on the MCG or is it possible the other tests just didn't catch anything????

Thanks!

MCG tests have roughly the same accuracy as nuclear stress tests or about 85%. They are more likely to have a false positive than a false negative with a specificity of approx 97%. These are not really tests, more of an analysis of your EKG. Your specific EKG ranges are converted to mathematical equations and compared to a massive data base of other EKGs to produce a score or likelihood of heart disease. Your score is in the moderate risk range.

Hope this helps,

Jon
