MRA

Hi,
Doctor, what is your opinion on the new new 3d magnetic resonance angiography machines starting to crop up at large medical centers. They are supposed to be able to detect artery blockages almost as well as traditional catheterization. Would they be a useful tool in the low risk patient?

Dear Inky,

Currently, coronary angiography is the gold standard for detecting blockages in the heart arteries. However, as the MRA technology improves I am sure there will be an increasing role for MRA in the assessment of coronary artery disease.

Thanks for your question,
