MVP and redundancy

by marzeis, Dec 23, 1999 12:00AM
Is there a differance between MVP and significant mitral valve redundancy?  My son has both and I am not sure what to make of it.

All four heart valves leak with regurgitation at 1+.

The aorta is mildly dialated?

His left ventricle isborderline function.

With these factors should I be concerned and how often should he be checked with a heart echo.  He is 18 y/o.

Thank you very much .

MVP and mitral valve redundancy are really different names for the same thing.  A 1+ leak is mild and not cause for alarm.  The other findings are also fairly benign in nature.   I would probably follow someone like him every several years with echo.
