MY SON HAS IHSS

My son has been diagnosed with IHSS.He was diagnosed in Feb. and just last month we saw a heart specialist ultrasounds showed his measurement at a 38.He was sent home with a 30 day heart monitor and on our first transmission the sudden death wave appeared.He just recieved a pacemaker/dyfibulator.He has had alot of congestion since then.Every morning he coughs up huge amounts.Is this normal and what do you believe the odds are of surgery. I forgot to mention that my son just turned 18. Thank You

If he's doing a lot of coughing, have him seen by his doctor. You asked about him having surgery; are you asking about the myoectomy or transplant? My daughter was diagnosed with HCM (also known as IHSS) when she was 6 years old. We've been through a lot over the years! Have been everywhere from Great Ormond Street in London, to Houston to the national Institutes of Health in Bethesda. If I can help you, please feel free to write to me.
