Manifest WPW conversion to Concealed WPW

by WPWchallenged, Dec 07, 2006 12:00AM
I was diagnosed with "manifest" WPW 20 years ago. I have had many EKGs including ones in the ER.  I recently started seeing a new Cardiologist and he told me my EKGs in the last few years no longer show WPW - which was news to me. He told me it's likely I have "concealed" WPW. Is it possible that that part of the extra pathway just shut down (antegrade direction?)? If I have the ablation prodedure, is it possible the antegrade path will become active again? Will they be able to find it in order to zap it?

Thank You

from what I have read WPW tends to improve with age and the accessory pathway can actually shutdown overtime.

I know that the extra electrical pathway can "go away" sometimes only to reappear. Take mine for example. My surgeons accidentally bumped it going in through my veins (remember- they can only guess where it is until they are actually inside of you) so when they bumped it- it went away! And they kept trying to bring it back but couldn't get it to come back full strength. But sure enough, it still shows on my ekg. Swelling (from the burning and bumping in there- they burned 12 of the wrong places) is hard to burn through, so that was another big part of the problem. They also tried to induce it by "pacing" my heart while I was in there and injecting me with something similar to epinephrine.

I hope those EP should use cryoablation instead of RF. That way your burning spots could be minimize.  Scars in the heart are not minor.  I personally don't like any scar in my organ or skin.......
