Maximum Heart Rate

Maximum Heart Rate

I  had a MI in April this year. I am 53 years old and weigh 180 pounds. No bypass or angioplasty was recommended. I have been put on medication. I was a smoker which I quit since the MI.
I had been very regular in exercise – trekking and/or jogging for about 6 miles on alternate days. After MI I was advised slow pace exercise for one month with a maximum heart rate of about 120. After medication my resting heart rate is around 50.
I have recently increased the distant and intensity of my exercise and my heart rate at times reaches 160 at times for about 5-8 minutes. (I use a heart rate monitor). I do not have any pain or discomfort feelings.
Is this OK or I still need to take it easy?

my dad had MI nd he was put on meds luckily it was only mild MI, brought on by stress, he was fit and healthy and had normal bp, normal cholesterol, you are the lucky ones because those people who are stuck there waiting for surgery dont even make it to surgery they pass away and they dont even get told by the docs that may happen, the doctors say if you're walking or jogging and you can have a chat with someone without gasping for air then you're fine carry on but if you gasp and cant talk you need to stop, keep your cholesterol down, exercise keeps bp down and is good for the heart, good luck
