Medications and concens For Arrhythmia,

Hello there!, i'm a 38 year old male, recently quit smoking, 225 pounds 6"2 tall, have been suffering pvc's, veb's & pac's for 9 years, had every test you can possibly imagine, eg Thallium, angiogram, EP study, 24hr holter, echocardiogram TFT (Normal), event monitor, CT angiogram (new test), stress test etc, all done within the last 2 weeks..all normal results, except, the 24hr holter picked up a burst of VT (16 beats), now mind you i was on Verapmil 180mg and Avapro 150mg (Ibersartan)at the time, previously the day before i was taking Tenormin (Atenenol)50mg which i have been taking for many years, but because of the last 2 weeks of having annoying runs of a fast heart beat (later which i found out is SVT)the EP cardiologist suggested i use Verapmil, now the reason i had all the above tests was when i took  verapmil, the following day i had SVT for 10 minutes, which totally freaked me out!called the paramedics...i ended up in hospital, and had these tests done, the following morning at 5am i had a smaller run of SVT which was picked up by the monitor i was wearing (mind you i was in the cardiac unit at a very prominent hospital)the SVT ran for about 2 minutes and stopped, after spending 3 days of tests and finding out all is normal, i am still shaken by this experiance, wondering if i'm safe to roam this planet!...if it was not for these types of forums id go nuts!..now to my questions, which i cant get my Doctors to answer properly, and belive me i have got access to some of the best!..my problem is that they say its anxiety related!..now i tell you something, you get me the coolest person on earth and id bet they would suffer anxiety after there heart hits 220bpm while doing nothing!!!.so finally i come to my questions!..1/Could of the verapmil triggered of the SVT?..2/How bad is VT in a normal structial heart?..3/Do i have any concerns or anything underlying that maybe the Medics didnt pick up on?...4/if i'm out somewhere where there is no paramedics, how much time do i have to get to a hospital?..Thanks a Million!

Hello,
I agree that heart rates of 220 bpm are not please and would even make the coolest personality nervous.

1/Could of the verapmil triggered of the SVT?..

We can never say never, but verapamil induced arrhythmias are not reported and would be difficult to explain.

2/How bad is VT in a normal structural heart?

The data shows that it is not bad.  Is there a slight risk of future cardiovascular events -- yes. The problem is that you can feel them and that what freaks you out.  Smoking, hypertension, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, etc. all increase your risk of cardiovascular events but they are silent until the event.  The key point is that PACs/PVCs are often difficult to control.  To truly decrease your future risk, focus on modifiable risk factors like the smoking (good job for stopping), high blood pressure, obesity, exercise, etc.

..3/Do I have any concerns or anything underlying that maybe the Medics didn’t pick up on?...

See an experienced electrophysiologist trained in all the recent procedures.  If they can do something about the PVCs and you understand the risks, there may be options -- but only if your symptoms are very significant.

4/if I’m out somewhere where there is no paramedics, how much time do I have to get to a hospital?

None of the problems you mentioned problems are life threatening -- you would have lots of time and the odds are it will stop on its own based on what you wrote above.

I agree --this forum rocks.  Thanks for the support.  Good luck.

LOVE the nickname, I'm sure that's how the majority of us that suffer with them feel! If you said you had access to some the best of doctors and they didn't seem concerned, then Id take their word for it and try to get past the anxiety over it, probably the biggest culprit, I know 220bpm  sitting doing nothing sames impossible to be anxiety related, but its amazing what anxiety can do, if they recorded SVT that's probably what it is. I think most SVTs are amendable by ablation but they are not recommended for every single case.Good luck and hope you get some answers & feel better soon.
