Mitral Valve surgery AND Pericarditis AND Parasthesia AND Lost of consciouness

First, let me thank your for the wonderful work you're doing with this informational site it has helped me and others find answers and go through heart surgery in total confidence and acceptation.

I had a mitral valve repair surgery in last January and it was a total success !!  Unfortunetly in march i was diagnosed having pericarditis and it recurred 3 times between march and may.
Each time i was given Arthrotec and Dilaudil and i was back on my feet within 2-3 weeks.

Two days ago i had to go back to the hospital emergency because i was esperiencing different symptoms which were:

1) A sharp pain in the heart lasting a few seconds followed by,
2) a thightening feeling beginning in the heart spreading to the neck and left arm causing,
3) Parasthesia in neck, left cheek, tongue and left arm through fingers. (Lost of sensation in various degrees)
4) Followed by sudden lost of consciousness lasting a few seconds
5) Taccycardia ( up to 180 bpm) and arrythmia.
Those symptoms aggravate when i stand up very fast, if bend or if i lay on my back, the best position is when i'm half sitting.

The emergency cardiologist found out that i had pericarditis again, but could not explain the other symptoms, he did various test and all my blood tests results are normal.  He also did some test on a possible anxiety attack but put it aside (my symptoms appeared several times while in his presence and he concluded that it could not be anxiety attacks).  I am reffered to a neurologist to explore the possiblity in nerve compression caused by the surgery (he told me that 2 major nerves of the disks in my spine were connected to my heart and that it could cause the symptoms i'm experiencing).

Today, which is two days after the pericarditis diagnosis, i am still experiencing these symptoms.  I was wondering if you ever heard of something like this and if it could be related to my surgery.  What kind of tests would your recommend in this situation.

Thank you for your interest. Annie.

The pain and fast heart rate can certainly be related to the pericarditis.  The numbness and passing out are not typical symptoms associated with pericarditis and other causes, such as neurologic, must be explored.
