Mitral and Tricuspid Valve Prolapse Correlation

by knmorris, Jul 24, 2007 12:08PM
For 3 years, I went through doctors and cardiologists telling me that there wasn't anything wrong with me. And during my heart echo, they told me that I had regurgitation, but that it COULDN'T be the reason for my heart flutters and tightness in the chest. Then at the age of 22, a doctor told me what he heard was Mitral Valve Prolapse between what I told him and what he heard my heart do. I told him I knew I had that and they said it wasn't the reason for my symptoms. He got very upset and gave me a Rx for metoprolol. Anyways....

I'm looking to find out more about the correlation between Mitral and Tricuspid Valve Prolapses. After finding out what I had, I got a copy of my old records and it said there, plain as day: "Mitral Valve Regurgitation, Tricuspid Valve Regurgitation." Is there a correlation between the two? It seems like my symptoms have gotten worse since I first started developing them 5 years ago. But I'll admit, I'm just afraid to ask my Dr. about them. Could the fact that I have both contribute to the worsening of symptoms?
