Mitral and Tricuspid Valve Regurg.

by horseownr, Feb 29, 2004 12:00AM
Hi, New to this sight. I will try to make this brief. I am 39, have mitral and tricuspid valve regurg. and also have HBP, which I take atenolol for. I have Heart disease in my family. Ive been to cardio. for valves. I have been experiencing something very odd for that past few months. I was walking everyday on treadmill or outside, then came down with the flu in NOv. I have been experiencing aches in lower legs sometimes they feel really heavy and I feel really weak, I went to my Primary and he sent me for esr and cpk, I havent heard anything from him, so Im assuming everything ok. My question is, can this achiness and sometimes pain in lower legs, tie into the valves? or is it something else to deal with? Any advice would be great! thanks for your time!

horseownr,

Thanks for the post.

Q:"can this achiness and sometimes pain in lower legs, tie into the valves?"

Never say never, but this symptom would be very unlikely to be connected with the valves.

If, however, you have swelling in your legs, this can be experienced as a discomfort.  I would expect that you could see the swelling if this was the case.  Also, swelling from the valves would be unlikely unless you had a significant amount of valvular leakage.

Make sure to inquire about the test results.  Doctors' schedules can be very busy (which is no excuse), and sometimes things get missed.

One last thought is the possibility of statin (lipitor, zocor, crestor, pravachol, etc) therapy.  These drugs are notorious for causing muscle aches.

Best of luck.

When I had signficant Mitral and Tricuspid valve regurg, my legs felt like rubber with any kind of exertion.  The problem is that not enough oxygenated blood is getting to the muscles.  Does it do away with rest?   Mine always did so it could be that or it could be some arrhythmia etc.

Did yours do it right away? As soon as I wake up in the morning, I feel it right away the aches, sometimes it almost hurts to even stand. What did your doc say or do for that, anything?
