Mobitz I

I am a 34 year old black female-healthy, runner.  Have had a mild arrhythmia (wenkeback) for atleast 8 years but discovered officially in 2003.  Since then, I had my first child (in oct 2007) and most recently have been experiencing a flutteirng in my chest and some light headedness-just inability to focus my eyes.  It was an extremely stressful period in my life and I revisited my electrophsyiologist.  I wore an event monitor for about 3-4 weeks and the results were that my doc saw the activity more than he expected.  He stated that 90% of him believes that its a benign rhythm, that causes my heart to stop VERY briefly and I get these symptoms and that we should monitor it and do nothing. . unless they symptoms become bothersome.  Then maybe treat with medication.  The other 10% of him feels its worth exploring to be sure we are dealing with Mobitz II and something dangerous.  We are doing a procedure so that he can look at the mappings of the heart this month.  My concers were that the activity has increased and whatever is going on has progressed.  I know im jumping the gun on the 10% probability, but can this lead to full heart block?  He mentioned if the 10% is the case and it is Mobitz II then treatment is a pacemaker.  I dont want to wear a pacemaker at 34. . . .. ..

If this is Mobitz I it is unlikely to progress and it may be simply related to a high vagal tone given that you are a runner. But Mobitz II can progress to complete heart block, so if he feels that there may be some of this kind of block and that you are symptomatic from this then you may benefit from having an EPS to document the exact site of block and from possibly having a pacemaker implanted.
