Mood change

My my, a 46 year old woman, has been living with cardiomyopathy since she was 38. In October 2007, they placed a pacemaker and a difibulator in her and after a year, it still does not work right. They did xrays and did not see a lo0se wire or anything and we were told that she did not have much longer to live. She recently found out that she will have to have surgery again because a screw came loose which was causing the pacemaker and difibulator not to work right. They changed her medicine to help try and get her heart beat down, then they were going to do surgery again at the beginning of 2009. She has had major mood changes and attitude changes. She is not the same mom that I remember. She is hateful, does not care if she misses out on her one year old grandson's life, or anything. She used to care, she used to do anything for me, and if we ever got upset with one another, we managed to work it out. Our whole family had a blow out about 2 weeks ago and she still has not talked with me. It breaks my heart because this is not my mom and I dont know what to do to help her. I was wondering if this could do with her heart. Can being ill like this cause you to change?

It is because she is in such serious condition and most likely feels like her life is coming to an end far to soon.  She is most likely upset and depressed.  She doesn't care about anything anymore.  I hope things get turned around for her.  She is so young to be going through this.  Be patient and kind to her.
