My girlfriend had Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm surgery, how long for recovery?

I believe that is the surgery she had, it definitely was open heart surgery due to aneurysm just not sure if thats exactly what the surgery is called. She is only 16 and had the surgery on 11/17/16 and currently is still on a breathing machine and cannot actually fully move her body.

During the surgery she lost alot of blood and went into Hypovolemic shock and they also say her heart stopped like twice but they stabilized her and brought her to the ICU. She has been in the ICU, knocked out, with occasionally opening her eyes up until about three days ago, when they decided to try and take her off the breathing machine. She was good for about 15-20 minutes and then her heart rate dropped and they frantically rushed her out of the room. They brought her back eventually and said she stopped breathing for a little bit.

She is now doing a little better because she is opening her eyes and looking around, seems to semi be aware of whats going on, still cant move for some reason and cannot talk or breath on her own.

I want to know is this normal? Why couldn't she breath on her own and why cant she move her body? I find very little info on this situation online so I decided to create my own question. I am just so lost, I dont understand why she cannot move, are they not feeding her enough nutriments through the iv? I would ask the doctor but our relationship is complicated and I cannot be at the hospital with her right now, so I have come here for answers.

Please help me out if you can and ask any questions you need to know. Oh and she is also going through coronary thrombosis according to the doctor. I am getting all this information via her best friend, please help if you can.

Thank You,

It sounds like your girlfriend is very ill and may have had complications during her surgery. The Aorta is the main and largest artery that feeds the heart with blood. If the operation would have been successful, it would seem that she would have been off of any breathing device by now, but I don't know the whole story. When someones heart and breathing stop for too long, there can be damage to the brain because of a lack of oxygen. If her girlfriend told you she had Coronary Thrombosis, that would mean that a clot was stopping the blood flow in one of her coronary arteries. She may have had a heart attack during the surgery. I hope she comes out of it OK!  Good luck to you.

iconoclasticat- Thank you, she is finally up and talking (texting) and I am speaking to her. She seems to not remember much, she said the doctors were asking her questions that she didn't know, like her name, where she lives, her age, but when I asked her if she knew me she said yes, I asked her whats my name she said "Wood?" (my last name) then I said whats my first name and she said "Sreef?" (Sharif). Not sure if this is a temporary thing or permanent, she also thinks shes been in the hospital for only two days, is it okay if I tell her whats going on?
