My heart murmur

by Mary__0__0, Jun 07, 1998 12:00AM

Hi, I'm sixteen, and in the future I was thinking about getting my tongue
or labret pierced but I was told that since I have a heart murmur, getting
anything in my mouth could lead to heart problems. I only have a slight heart
murmur and have had only a slight one since birth...
  is this true ?

Dear Mary,
You absolutely should not get anything pierced in your mouth.  By doing this you would be opening your blood stream up to all sorts of bacteria (germs).  These could then migrate to your heart valve and cause serious problems that could require surgery or could even result in death.  As for piercing anything else on your body that’s up to you.
