My husband was taking furosemide 40mg twice a day still retaining water so dr has tried bumetanide 1mg twice a day. He started yesterday. We are watching our sodium and he has gained a pound and said he really is not peeing as much as he did. But it has only been a day. Should we call the dr or wait till Monday
It is fast acting. Following oral administration of Bumex (bumetanide) the onset of diuresis occurs in 30 to 60 minutes. Peak activity is reached between 1 and 2 hours. At usual doses (1 mg to 2 mg) diuresis is largely complete within 4 hours; with higher doses, the diuretic action lasts for 4 to 6 hours. So, if he continues to face problem with inadequate excretion of urine, consult your doctor.
