Myocarditis???

by Pishta, Aug 08, 2006 12:00AM
hi,Im an 18 year old male and recently i found out tha i have myocarditis.i noticet something was wrong becouse i had chest pain and i was breathles all the time.I went to hospital aboutn 2 weeks since I noticed the symtoms.I also have a smal MVP(i was born with it). Befor my myocarditis i was training bodybuilding.
Is it posible that bodybuilding is the cause of my myocarditis.
I was not taking anything not healthy for my organisam like steroids i was just using proteins. I was also involved in a fight infront of a night club during those 2 weeks when i noticed something is wrong. So im wondering how much did that efect my heart.I want to say that i was smoking and drinking before my myocarditis so maybe that has anything to do with it.
And my final question is can my hearth recover, can it work as it did before myocarditis, and is there any chance for me to get back to the gym.

pishta,

thanks for the post.

Your weight lifting and fight would not precipitate myocarditis. While alcohol can cause heart problems in excess, it usually occurs after an many years of heavy abuse.  There are many causes of myocarditis, but some people can recover.  I would seek care from an experienced heart failure physician to make sure you are on the proper medications and have the appropriate follow up over time.

good luck

are you seeing a cardiologist yet? if you arent that would be a great first step. myocarditis can be caused by viral infections (the most common one being the flu) this is why they tell you not to work out when you have the flu because it can increase your risk. maybe this was the trigger? here is some info for you that you might find helpful!

By doing a quick check online it seems a previous infection, allergies, or even chemicals can trigger myocarditis. Also your Mitral Valve Prolapse may put you at higher risk for myocarditis. The outcome depends upon a lot of factors and an evaulation from a cardiologist would be needed.

Alcohol and tobacco are not conducive to heart health. Both will have to be eliminated.

You have a significant health issue now, even at your young age. At some point, you will have to learn that drinking, smoking, bar fights, and body building in the gym are not appropriate priorities if you hope to have a long and healthy life.

going to the gym can be a great stress release and make you feel better, but if u cant stay calm and function without spending hours in the gym everyday, you should probably look into seeing a counselor to help you deal with these issue's.. good luck!

K than you all for ur answers. I am seeing a cardiologist and ye he told me its myocarditis and gave me the medication. Now when im thinkinabout it i realised that ur maybe right abou the triger colagegirl. About two monts ago before myocarditis i was a litle sck and  was taking antibiotics. The doctor said then that i should be resting for couple of day but i wasnt listening to him. Now my second problem is that im mentaly a very unstable and selfdestructive person. soi nedt to goto the gym becouze working out was helping me to control all the negativ emotions in me. And since i stoped going to the gym becouse of my myocarditis im eting more and more angry. I know that anger is bad for the heart, o should i also take some medication to help me controle it?
