Myxomatous

Since my first question a few days ago, I have gotten the results of my Echo.  It says I have myxomatous mvp with no regurgitation and mild aortic insufficiency.  When I asked him about the aortic valve he said he would be more worried about the mitral one.  Is myxomatous synonymous with mvp or a certain type of mvp?  Does it generally deteriorate and how fast?  I am 38 and wondering if I am looking at a mitral or aortic valve replacement in my future.

I looked back at your prior post. Without 2 points in time the specific answer to your question is impossible.

With no mitral regurgitation, the overall incidence of progression to having complications of the mitral valve strictly from myxomatous degeneration is quite small and under 1% in five years, so yearly follow up for this is perfectly reasonable.

With regards to the aortic valve, the progression of the lesion to a greater level of severity over the course of a few years is also quite low for mild aortic insufficeincy, probably less then 5 percent depending on the etiology. If it were to progress, more information about the specific etiology might be helpful, but in the short term, I probably would not veer from the course of a yearly follow-up.

I think prophylactic antibiotics and serial echos sound reasonable from the information you've provided. I can;t see the future, but the biggest impact on your outcomes if you were to need a valve replacement down the line would be your overall health and conditioning at that time. So I would try to eat healthy and maintain an active lifestyle, and not let any worry about your valves impact or curtail either.
