NMR LIPOPROTEIN TEST

I see that some online labs are offering a new cardiovascular disease test called NMR Lipoprotein  test. I know my primary care physician does not currently perform this test (at least last time I had a checkup he didn't) and I was wondering what the professional consensus  is about this test.

Is it proven? Is it theoretical? Is it debatable? Is it hooey?

Thanks for any responses.

It was NOT a dumb question. I just found out about this just now from the Cardiac educator. My Dad had open heart surgery Tuesday. In 2008 he had this level drawn and it was very elevated at 138 ( supposed to be under 30). No one said anything! I am not saying this whole thing could have been prevented but he could have started on a diet and exercise program and medications, 4 years ago!!! I am definitely going to pursue this more. I already posted an article on facebook.
Thank you!
Did you ever get the lab drawn?

Well, I guess it was either a dumb question or no one really knew enough about the test to post an opinion. I guess I will have to remember to ask my doctor next time I see him.
