Neurologist ordered ekg --- why?

by am36, Apr 02, 2008 08:11PM
Hi-
I saw a neurologist a few months ago for headache and tingling down the side of my body including face.  I also had a headache and these symptoms lasted almost a month.  I had MRI which was normal, thank god, and the doctor said it sounded like migraine.  I've been dealing with it much better -- the headache finally subsided thankfully and comes back now every once in a while.  I still get the tingling relatively often -- a few times a week in mostly my left side but also a bit on the right and my feet. I should mention that a similar episode happened about 3 yrs prior (without a headache)where all testing was thankfully normal also...I should also say that I am a migrainer but until this last episode it was mostly aura with no headache.  The episode of tingling I had a few years ago with with no headache (or not such a noteable one)  and that I also get visual scintilating aura (sorry for the spelling) both those are often without headache.  Interestingly, for the past several months I've had the headache with tingling but not the visual aura.  A week ago I had my first visual aura I've had in I think 8 months.
So now to a question -- in addition to the other testing the neurologist also ordered an EKG which I didn't do. I figured I was dealing with migraine... But now I'm anxious that maybe there is something I should be checking out since he ordered that test.  Does any one know why he would have ordered that for my symptoms?  I do suffer from anxiety and I'm feeling pressure in my chest -- so that makes me worried which probably doesn't help.

Thank you for any help.

hi,
I just wanted to suggest to you that you should go to have that test done. I started back in the end of Jan. 08 with the worst headaches of my life ( headaches had me hospitalized for a full week.) It was a horrible experience, anywhoooo. I started with a neurologist because of headaches and they have done every test you could think of and could not find anything. I was sent to a cardiologist and they had ran some tests and that's when I found out about HBP and my enlarged aorta. Both of which I believe are silent killers. If you get this test done it can possibly rule out anything negative and that might be able to relieve some stress from you.

Robin ( Good Luck)
