Dear BabbsL,
Thank you for posting to our forum. Aortic stenosis is a common condition that affects thousands of patients each year. This is caused by narrowing of the aortic valve, which is the heart valve that separates the left ventricle from the aorta. When this narrows, the heart has to beat against more pressure, which can lead to symptoms of heart failure, chest pain, passing out, or other serious problems including death. A good description of aortic stenosis can be obtained from the link below:

Aortic stenosis is graded based on the valve area, and the velocity of the blood ejected through the valve. Mild and moderate aortic stenosis are not typically associated with symptoms. Severe aortic stenosis, however, is commonly associated with symptoms and often needs surgical or catheter-based treatment. While moderate aortic stenosis is not typically treated surgically, your physician should monitor this closely for progression. Only a physician who knows you well can make the decision of if surgery, and what type of surgery, is right for you.
Hypokinesis is decreased contraction in some certain segment of your heart. The apex of the heart is the "tip" of the heart. Mild hypokinesis of the apex means that the tip of your heart has mildly reduced contraction. This may be due to a prior heart attack, a blockage in a coronary artery, long-standing hypertension, or other conditions. Again, a physician who knows you well can make the decision of how to further evaluate this and what the significance of this is.
I hope this is helpful. Very best wishes!
