New Lipid Test

New Lipid Test

I have heard of a new (to me) test for blood lipids that measures the levels of the different components of the various cholesterols and that may allow medications to be chosen for the specific component that is too high (or low).  I believe the process involves ultra centrifuge.

Under what conditions, if any, do you think the test appropriate. My current lipid levels using standard tests are:  Total chol= 161,  LDL= 63, HDL 33, Triglycerides= 343.

Do you think the test would provide beneficial information for me?

Thanks in advance.  This site is very helpful.

I think what you are referring to is the determination of oxidized vs. non-oxidized components of cholesterol.  This is essentially a research tool and not measured on standard tests.  Your cholesterol profile is excellent and knowing these values would not change your management.
