Nightsweats

Thank you for this forum.  What a wealth of information!

I am a 40+ yr. old female of ideal weight and I exercise regularly.

I began having nightsweats when I was in my early 30's.  I don't know if they were typical nightsweats.  If it were a night that I would have them, I would break out in a sweat each time I woke up through out the night and when I woke in the morning.  Is it a coincidence that they stopped when I started taking beta blockers 1+ years ago?  Is it a coincidence that they started up again when I began taking salt tablets, as per dr.'s orders, 1+ mos. ago?

Thank you for your anticipated response.

Dear Anon.
I could think of several possible reasons why sweats may stop with beta-blockers but none of why they would start back with salt tablets.  I suppose a high sympathetic tone could cause the sweats and the beta-blockers reverse that trend but this would not explain the recurrance now.

Hi, I have an arrythmia (ventricular) and also have night sweats (less when on beta blockers)... I've wondered if this is related.  Is this common? What is a high sympathetic tone? Thanks!

I have an arrhythmia, too, SVT. I don't know if that's why I had the nightsweats or not. I don't know what a high sympathetic tone is, either. My guess would be something to do with the sympathetic system as opposed to parasympathetic (?). I know they say everybody perspires as they sleep, so maybe a high sympathetic tone makes one do so more (as if it is over active). How's that for a guess? :/
