Nitro glyercin for bronchitis?

I woke up at 2:00a.m. and my chest hurt so bad I wasn't sure if it was my heart or the acute bronchitis I have suffered with all week. I was desparate so I took a nitro & some aspirin for the fever, (I also had the shivers) It seemed to help so I feel asleep again. For some reason this Brochitis is worst at night when I lay down. My question, is what I did safe and can I do it again to open up airways for breath? My doctor only said take it for chest pain. Thank you for answering

Nitro relieves chest pain due to ischemia (reduced blood flow) of the coronary vessels.  When the heart cells don't receive a sufficient supply of oxygenated blood there is angina (chest pain) and the nitro relaxes the coronary vessels and that increases blood flow and relieves the pain.

Brochitis is the inflammation of the respiratory airways and not releated to blood flow to the heart, and nitro would be of no benefit for chest pain unrleated to the heart...sometime an esophegeal pain can be helped with nitro...but no other pain relief noted for nitro. It may not harm you to take nitro, but it won't help your bonchitis.  Aspirin may be of some help.

The reason you seem to be worse at night has to do with the position you are in while sleeping.  It hinders breathing.  Try sleeping with your head and chest slightly elevated and see if that helps.
