Nuclear Stress Test

Nuclear Stress Test

Can anyone tell me if there is any allergic reaction while having a Myoview stress test? This will be my first stress test and I'm just concerned. My doctor did tell me that I will feel absolutely nothing no side effects at all. Only if your getting meds to speed up your heart then there could be some side effects with that. Thank you in advance for any help.

Is that the one where they shoot you full of radioactive stuff, put you on a treadmill, and then take pictures?

I had one a while back, and had a pretty bad allergic reaction to the treadmill.

You will glow in the dark for several days following the test.

I've had humpteen and as long as you don't take a beta blocker the night before, all will be well. My former stupid cardiologist had to clear me for sinus surgery. I had no idey it would involve a stress test. He said "can you take the stress test today?" I says sure why not. I forgot that you always skip your dose of a bb the night before a stress test, but the **&^%% doctor should not have.

The treadmill almost killed me while trying to reach my target heart rate and complete the test. It is hard to get it up after taking a bb the night before. The beta blockers slow the heart rate. The nurse had to stand behind me and brace against my lower back to keep the treadmill from hell throwing me into the next room. I had to nap for 20 minutes or so before leaving.

A prerequisite for stress tests are to skip the bb the night before the test...

They are a piece of cake. Don't go through the high tech equipment at an airport too soon though. They will think that you are wearing a nuclear bomb.

Of the many stress tests I have taken I have never been advised to skip the beta blocker the night before.   Maybe it is the difference in our conditions.  I think I might slip a quick email to my contact.  I get the whole kaboodle of tests coming up on Oct 01.

They pushed on my lower back too..............that combined with no food or COFFEE, and ugly incompetent people....arrrgh..I lasted 90 seconds, and threw in the towel before they killed me.

Did you have to take the chemical injection to reach your target heart rate, or did you just leave? I won't take the drug they use for people who are not able to do the walking. Once a lady next to me (in a big stress test factory) had the drug and she immediately began to swell up...The doc came and had her injected with an anecdote. I think she was ok....

Both of our test sound like an episode of the Keystone Cops....

I have had three nuclear stress test is the past five years.  I tend to have a mild reaction to the  contrast dye.  Most people do not.  Please have confidence that the people who do these things have a lot of experience and are always vigilant and ready to treat people who have a severe reaction.  Again, the risk of a reaction is very small, and if one does occur, they will know what to do.
Even in the worst case scenario, you will be OK.   Don't worry, and start thinking of this test as just another adventure.

I did not have the med to increase my heart rate....just the nuclear dye....Keystone Cops was the exact thought I had at the time.... great minds, eh?........If I had died, they never could have revived me........they were useless..........the fat ugly Nurse was as bad as the East Indian IV tech..he looked like a 10 year old beggar from New Delhi he weighed about 100 lbs, and he was very nervous............Nurse ratchet keep yelling at me, and the machine tech asked me if I spent a lot of time just sitting around on the couch, eating potato chips, I swear it's true.......the doctor is supposed to be present, but they told me he just had to be in the building, and after the 5th run of VT, and frequent PVCs on T waves, and SOB, and surrounding idiots, literally claustrophobic, I thought F it.   This is the same office that a nurse, whose daughter was best friends with my daughter at the time, said to my daughter later, "So, does your Mom still think she is going to die?"  I could not even walk across the house at that time.............I have vented enough!  But I was promised I would never need another stress test again....so why do people need 3 in so many years?  Insurance premiums are sky high for this over kill....I want a job as a gate keeper.

Your comment about the beta blockers was a good one - they forgot to tell me too for my first nuke stress test.  I was on that dang treadmill for about 21 minutes running straight up a mountain it seemed before I could ever get my heart rate up.  Didn't think I'd ever get my breath back - and thought the sweat pouring off my face my short circuit the treadmill and cause me to get electricuted.  I've never forgotten to take it after that, but then again, my doctors now are at a civilian hospital (vs. the military hospital where I first had it done) and have been VERY good about giving me all the info I need before doing the nuke test.  Don't really need it now as I've done it about 10 times over the last year or so, but nice they provide the info one needs.

Sumrbrze - the test, in spite of our stories, isn't something I'd worry about.  In my opinion, it's a fairly easy test.  The only side effects you might feel are having a good run depending on your fitness level and how long you last.  After about 15 minutes or so, the incline on that thing gets pretty steep.  Take some good workout clothes/shoes, and all will be fine.  I've had the drugs once to speed up the heart w/o exercise, and that is a different story.  I didn't have any side effects afterwards, but REALLY didn't like the feeling I had during the test.  Thought my chest was going to explode.  But as Sweetwaterguy said, it's just another adventure.  Hope you get good results!

some real editing problems from my post (agree w/ Vienna about the need for an edit button)!  I've never forgotten to NOT take the beta blockers the night before.  They really do a good job in keeping my heart rate down.  I really notice the effect every morning when I run - doesn't take near the time to recover that it use to.  Take care!
