On new Beta Blocker Inderal LA 60

On new Beta Blocker Inderal LA 60

I was on Atenelol 25mg for approx. 2 yrs. Recently on a doc visit, I was changed to Inderal LA 60. It was to do double duty of blood pressure and relieving my migraines. Since being on this new one, about a week, I have noticed the tip of my tounge being sensitive, and painful. It almost feels as though it has been burned. Is this a side-effect of Inderal? It is bothersome enough for me to want to stop taking it.

hionlyf,

Thanks for the post. If you were to read the package insert for any drug, you would see that almost any side effect has been associated with that drug.  Drugs effect different people differently. While I've never heard of that association with Inderal, its certainly possible. Some important drug reactions can effect the mucous membranes of the mouth and I would discuss this symptom with your physician.

good luck

Thank you Al. Yes it is difficult dosing correctly. My tounge symtom has seemed to go away. I have been getting a mild headache, though nothing like before.

I am thankful though for the dual purpose of the drug as I have HBP as well.

Thanks again for your thoughts.

My doctor just prescribed me Toprol for PVCs.  I have low blood pressure, so I'm worried that taking a beta blocker will make it even lower.  Typically, my BP is about 94/56.

Have you been on a beta blocker for long?  Do you notice a decrease in your BP?  Do you experience side effects with beta blockers?

Thanks.

Hello,
Just wanted to let you know that I have been taking toperol XL for PVCs. I was prescribed 25mg/day but found the first time I took them (three days in a row) that I was VERY fatigued, which annoyed me to no end because fatigue was one symptom I was experiencing from the high frequency PVCs. On the toperol I was dragging my bottom and felt like I was walking around in a fog.

My BP is pretty normal 120/75, and maybe dropped 110-115/70, so it didn't go to low, but you wouldn't want yours to go much lower than what you have now.

I didn't find toperol it did much for the high frequency, but it did end a constant bigeminal pattern and some nsvt. But I stopped taking it when the bigeminy stopped because I was just too tired.

I have tried it again, (this time 12.5mg/day for about a week), but it didn't stop a constant trigeminy pattern so I stopped taking it because I was getting tired again. I find this time I'm not tired with PVCs even with the trigeminy.

I do have to say, most doctors would recommend you take the medication longer than I did, unless you had significant symptoms. I felt mine were significant enough. There are so many BBs out there, you might need to experiment--with your doctor to find one that works for you.
