HEllo
Im a 20-yr old Pole, so please forgive me my grammar.

Then question is : Can heart failure be initiated within one day ? I mean , yesterday i havent got , today i have got.

The reason why im asking it is beacause of my stupid and childish act that happend yesterday. I took a sniff of a inhalant called "poppers", its isobutylnitrite.
I've heard that it can cause heartfailure and death - is that  true ? Am i in danger of having it ?

I have to menion that couple of months ago i was tested : ECG, ECG HOlter, ECHO, and STRESS TEST and the doctors said that i dont have any serious deasease, only tendency to tachycardia during the day which is the effect of my nervousness (didnt know how to call it, in poland its called "nerwica")

And yes, I AM chipohondric so today i am thinking that i have heartfailure, and so on I am feeling weak after an excersise, but i dont know if its the effect of HF or my chipochondric thoughts.
Oh , i always was quite active in sports ( 2 years of working out in a gym, cycling ...)
PLease make it clear for me.
Thank you.
Grzegorz

Dear Grzegorz,

Although using inhalents is dangerous and stupid and can cause serious health problems, isobutylnitrite is unlikely to cause heart failure with only one sniff. If you continue to have symptoms however you should see your doctor.

For some reason I am not able to post a respond here.  But here is my situation.  Any help will be appreciated.

I sometimes feel a fast heart beat.  EVent monitors, EKGs and echo and stress test does not show anything wrong.  When I am sleeping at night, I wake up with a jerk.  The jerks are all over the body.  Sometimes in the stomach, legs, arms and a lot  of muscles twichting.  I am not sure what causes that.  My doctor says, nothing is wrong with my hear.  There are times I can hear the heart beat, evn though it may be beatin a regular pace.  Sometimes, I get ringing sensation in my head as well. The Doctor told me that it was migrane.  I alos feel somethin writed in my ears.  It feels like someone just turned the lights off and then they turned it on again.  Feeling like that only last for a mini second, but I use do loos my breath over it.  Not sure what is going on here.  They tell me all these sysmptoms, I have are pointing to anxity and stress.  Theh have given me xanacs for it but I dont take it,  I hear it is very pysically addictive.

So if there is anyone our there with these symptoms, and know what causes them, plese help me.  I am hoping it has nothing to do with my heart.  By the way I am 31 years old with the history of heart disease.

Thanks for all the help.

Over the last year, I have had multiple episodes of PVC's PAC's, GERD etc... and have made numerous visits to Emergency Rooms and Doctor offices.  They could never find anything wrong.  Finally I asked my doctor to check me for Lyme Disease after I realized that out of the 25 or so possible symptoms listed on a web site, I was experiencing about 12-13 of them on a somewhat regular basis.  The most disturbing one being the PVC's.  I came back positive and was started on an antibiotic for 21 days.  After two days on the new med, my symptoms were completely gone.  It was a frustrating year until this diagnosis was made.  I am lucky though because I am in the military and the doctor pretty much tested me at my request after I told her my history and she figured that Lyme was a possibility.  When I read the Lyme web sites, I got the impression that convincing a doctor to test you is the hard part.  Just a thought that may be worth checking out.

Everyone reading this submission will probably think I am stupid, but in my defence, untill recently I was not aware of the negativity of my actions.
Some 15 years ago I was introduced to amilnitrate (poppers) At that time poppers where regarded as a relativly mild stimulant and I suffered no ill effects from using this product, apart from the obvious euphoria attached with its usage, my only discomfort was a slight headache and an increased heart beat. In order to get stimulated during love making I take 3 large sniffs of the product and this is on average 4 times per week for the last 15 years. I undergo regular ECG's and I have a stress test every 12 months. To date my heart is fine and my doctor has given me a clean bill of health everytime. My simple question is two fold.
1. how does amilnitrate (isobutylnitrite) work.
2. what, if any, damage can it cause.
I have heard conflicting reports on this issue and at this juncture i wish someone, with expert knowledge, would advise me of it's pitfalls and side effects. To this end, I dont endorse it's usage, nothing chemical nor otherwise, is ever advisable, I understand this, however as I have never had any reason to stop using it, could it be detrimental to my health. I am a fit 49 year old and suffer no medical problems with the exception of stiff joints brought about by age.
Any advice on this subject would be greatfull.
Sam Wilson.
