A patent foramen ovale (PFO) is not a condition that should prevent you from working or doing anything you would normally do.  One in four people have a PFO but many are not diagnosed and they usually do not cause any medical problems.  If you are not comfortable with the recommendations of your current physician, I recommend that you seek a second opinion from a cardiologist at an academic medical center.  If you do seek a second opinion, it is very important that you bring the reports from your previous tests, including lab tests and the images from any cardiac tests (such as echocardiograms) that you have received.
