by RNtoBee, Jun 27, 2007 06:03PM
I have had palpitations over 20 years.  I am now 37.  I had a holter moniter done and it says frequent PAC's with 1 PAC couplet.  I feel like I ma having these with no breaks at all.  THe cardio said it is benign.  How long can I go on like this?  when i am not feeling them my heart still is skipping around.  GRRRR

You and I are in a similar situation, I think.  I am 38.  I have had these "things" for 20 years now.  I'm still not really sure exactly which arrhythmia I have.  I have been diagnosed with PAC's and PVC's........but as I age, I notice they are getting worse.  Sometimes it feels like my heart skips several times in a row.....What is this?  Anyway, I noticed your subject, hormones and PAC's.  I have noticed that my arrhythmia's get worse during certain times of my cycle.  Mostly when there is a shift in hormone levels.  Right after I ovulate, just before and after I start.  Have you had this problem?

I have!  They change during the cycle.  They are worse at ovulation.  I am also noticing as I get older they are more pronounced.

I have EXACTLY that problem at exactly the times you describe, and mine are also PACs.  Around hormonal times I get short little PSVTs (three beat runs of PACs) one after another.  I'm 29 and was diagnosed at 16 with it, though I recall feeling them years before that.  Didn't they offer you any treatment like beta blockers or anything?

Also, and off topic, you're studying to be a nurse?  Me too :)

Ignore them.

Yes I am studying to be a nurse. :)  I have been on hormone replacement therapy off and on for 10 years.  I am wondering if this has anything to do with it.  My cardio says he doesnt deal with hormones but just diseases of the heart and so far mine is healthy.  I am having a stress echo on monday.  I hate this feeling.  I have anywhere frim 1-6 per minute i wonder if this is to much? the cardio says its all benign.  GRRRRR  I try not to get worked up about it.  I am having my hormones checked out again after this stress echo.

HRT can be related to palpitations, yes, but I don't think it makes them any more worrisome.  I would talk with whoever is prescribing the medication for you to see if maybe some adjustments can be made to help ease up the other symptoms.
