P.A.T.?? HELP

I left the E.R. last night with the Dr. telling me I had PAT. Which I guess is when your heart out of the blue decides to speed up? How fast can your heart go before it's dangerous? What about6 feeling like you can't get enough oxygen? My first time having an episode was almost 2 years ago when I woke up in  the middle of the night extremely dizzy and  pulse sped up to over 200 beats per minute(confirmed later with Cardiologist that my pulse gets between 200 and 300 beats peer minute with some of my episodes) My cardiologist told me he was concerned and that he had twp patients drop dead from this? He put me on a beta blocker to slow my heart rate down. It seemed to be going O.K. until a couple of days ago when I had a really bad attack followed by one after another for 4 hours however a bit more mildly. I have been fighting this now for a few days. The ER Dr.said to double of med and I did but it's still happening. I feel like I'm going to die when it happens. It scares me very badly. The ER Dr. said it's nothing than can hurt me. My symptoms I was wondering if they are the same as others. It starts with extreme dizziness or a warm burning feeling in the chest that starts to spread. Then I feel like I have trouble getting enough oxygen. I'm breathing fine but it doesn't feel satisfactory. Then my pulse speeds up to around 200 within generally 15 seconds. Then if the dizziness didn't already hit, it comes. Then I really feel like I can't get air and this is the time I generally start to feel panicked. Is this PAT? Can this hurt me? Thanks for listening. I would appreciate any advise out there especially if you too have these symptoms.

You are clearly having some type of arrythmia which is the explanation for your symptoms.  I cannot say if it is for sure PAT without seeing your EKG during one of these episodes.  It definitely sounds possible though!  I know that your symptoms can be very scary and that it makes you feel terrible but if it is PAT, it is not dangerous and you will not die from this rhythm.  It is just more annoying for you because of how it makes you feel.  I would recommend that you be evaluated by an Electrophysiologist which is a specialty within Cardiology who specializes only in arrhythmias.  Sometimes medications do not control PAT well and there are actually procedures that Electrophysiologists can do to get rid of the rhythm.   There are also maneuvers at home you could do to try and get it to stop, but you first need a definite diagnosis.

Hope this helps.  Good Luck!!!
