PDA & cholesterol

Hi

My PDA was surgically closed when I was four (I am now forty). I have had no health problems since the surgery, and am generally healthy apart from mild asthma.

My recent blood tests indicate high cholesterol (total 257, triglycerides 190, HDL 52.9, LDL 166.3)

Since my diet is reasonably low fat, and I exercise, I was wondering what was going on. Am I more at risk from high cholesterol because of the PDA? Is there any specific follow up I should be doing?

thanks

Sarah

No the PDA and high cholesterol are not linked. But you should start taking a statin to decrease your cholesterol and diminish your risk for developing heart disease in the future.
