PFO Closure

What size PFO should be closed? Is there a certain size? I have heard several different answers.
And IF someone is told that they do have a PFO and the size of it is a quarter to a 50 cent piece,
Is that a large enough hole to be concerned with closing? And the Echo and TEE showed some right heart enlargement.
In your opinion, should this person have the PFO Closure Procedure done? And should it be done with the AMPLATZER DEVICE?

Unfortunately, none of us on this forum are physicians.  The best person to answer your questions is your surgeon.  If you don't trust them, seek another opinion.  You could try posting your question on the expert heart forum.  Sorry I can't be of more help!

I can't tell you when it's advisable to close a PFO.  I have also heard answers that differ - I do know that when the doctor thought I may have thrown a clot, he suspected a PFO.  He said he would consider closing it.  My EP said it isn't always necessary....In my case, they did not find a PFO, but if they had I would have been interested in closure since there was some discussion of potentially throwing clots.

What does your own cardiologist suggest?
