PVCs and Exercise

by slyder13, Mar 11, 2007 12:00AM
I recently developed PVCs after changing my diet and began an vigorous exercise routine.  I am a little over weight but have always been active except for the last year.  I thought I was doing everything right when the PVCs started.  I got the PVCs checked out and the Doctor ran blood tests, EKG, Echo, and 24 hour holter and said I was very healthy.  The PVCs started about a month ago and last all day but have been getting better the last week or so.  My questions are:  Could I of hurt myself exercising to much?  Are there any other indicators if they are triggered by stress?  I noticed alot of people have cronic problems with these, what are the chances I will too?  I just turned 30 with a new baby and it scares me that something like this could crop at this time.

Hi Slyder,

First I want to congratulate you on trying to get back into shape.

Could I of hurt myself exercising to much?
It depends on a lot of variables like what you are doing, how old you are, other medical problems.  In general, moderate aerobic exercise is a good place to start aiming for  60-70% of your maximum heart rate (220-your age = roughly your maximum heart rate).  If there is any questions, run your work out program by your doctor to make sure it is ok.

Are there any other indicators if they are triggered by stress?

Not really.  It is always difficult to pin point why the pesky PVCs come and go when they do.

I noticed alot of people have cronic problems with these, what are the chances I will too?

Many more people have waxing and waning PVCs (one for month, off for a year) than have chronic daily PVCs.  Only time will tell,  but the odds are low that you will develop chronic PVCs.

I just turned 30 with a new baby and it scares me that something like this could crop at this time.

The stress of a new baby combined with trying to get back into shape coud do it.  Just take a slow and make sure you keep it up (don't get lazy after a few months).  It it takes a lot of disipline to stay fit!

Good luck and thanks for posting.

There are a number of us just here, it seems, who have experienced a jump in PACs or PVCs when returning to an exercise routine after having a baby.  It makes me wonder what the connection is.  Hormones?

It is most likely hormone related.
