PVCs and beta blockers

I have been diagnosed with pvcs and they are bothersome (all day, everyday)  I have had them for nine months and have eliminated all caffeine, chocolate, etc.
My cardiologist has recommended a beta blocker (alterol?) My question is:
I am a 32 yr old female with a history of childhood asthma (no longer a problem) and two years ago when pregnant with my child I had gestational diabetes.  Is it safe to take the 25 mg with this history?

Dear Lisa,
As it is for any medication (even over the counter medications) you need to way the risks of taking the drug with the risks of not taking the drug.  As for the risk of YOUR taking a beta blocker, there is not a contraindication that
I can see in what you have told me of your history.  Although we often give lung patients beta blockers, they are watched carefully for worsening of their lung disease.  In your case, you have outgrown your asthma and are likey not to have a problem (return of
the asthma) with taking beta blockers.  The diabetes was related to the pregnancy and even active diabetics are on beta blockers.  Good Luck.
