PVCs and strep throat

PVCs and strep throat

: I was having pvc's every five seconds or so for about 5 weeks straight.  Finally, after getting tired of having them, I went to the doctor where he found that I had strep throat. I am currently still undergoing some tests, but am almost certain the strep is the reason for the pvc's. Anyone had similar situations?

I find that my PVCs can get worse whenever there's any kind of stress on my body, as is the case when it's fighting an infection like a sore throat. They are also increased when I haven't gotten enough sleep or if I'm really hungry and have an empty stomach. However, the strep throat may not be the reason for the PVCs. Doctors typically can provide no explanation for what causes PVCs in a person that otherwise has no heart problems and avoids stimulants like caffeine and certain cold medicines. If you were taking cold meds. during your recent illness that could have increased your PVCs. Just a hunch...  Take care and try to relax.

Dear Kathy
You are quite correct. Several over-the-counter cold medicines can contribute to PVCs. Diet pills and caffeine are other common culprits. Alcohol and tobacco can also contribute to PVCs, as can illicit drugs.
I hope this is useful. Feel free to write back. I wish you the best of luck.
