PVCs

by searching, Feb 13, 2007 12:00AM
I'm wondering if anyone has ever had consistent PVCs (skipping a beat every 2-3 beats) for longer than 3 hours and, if so, did you take any action?  I had an attack of 1 1/2hrs duration and then the next day another of 3 1/2hrs duration.  I called my GP (but didn't get a return call til the next day when PVCs were gone)and didn't go to the ER.  Has anyone else ever had long bouts (and is this considered long?) of PVCs.  What have your doctor's said about it?

Thanks!

searching,

Frequent PVCs are common here. I would look into the ways people have dealt with them here. If you have not ever been evaluated for your symptoms, you should discuss them with your physician.

good luck

Hi Searching!

First off, you are NOT alone!  TONS of us suffer from these, on and off for years.  That said, it might be a good idea to get more indepth heart testing.  There is a usual battery given before they assure us we'll be fine, and that this is just an "annoyance".

That said, I'm in the middle of a bad week myself, where they've been coming hot and heavy for the better part of 10 days.

Hope that reassures you at least a little!

For the past couple of months they have been relentless.  Sometime they go on for 24 hours.  My whole left side of my chest is extremely irritated and sore.

Because my PVCs cannot be controlled by meds, I'm having a procedure called an RF ablation.  An EP doctor goes into the heart, tries to locate the point of origin, and burns it out.  Most of the time this is successful, but there's bad risks.  In my case I have no choice.

Check out pvcablation.com for more info.

Hello Linda21,

Thanks so much for your encouragement. My arrhythmia started 2 1/2 years ago after a very long stressful time.  At that time they didn't last more than 45min to 1 hour. Cardiologist did work-up and determined that they were stress induced pvcs, gave me Atenolol (which I never needed to take as I didn't have any long episodes until now) to take as needed and told me that they would never go away and that I would have to live with them. Well, I left the job that was causing most of the stress and over time, they went away. Then, out of the blue, I had these two weird bouts for much longer periods of time.  I didn't stress about it too much when they were happening but then stressed big time after my GP, Cardiologist's office and pharmacist seemed very concerned that I hadn't gone to the ER. I go to see my cardiologist today so will know more about whether they have changed from pvcs into something else or whether they're the same.  Finding this forum this week has really reduced my anxiety about this and having people like you to give your story really helps.  Thanks for taking the time to share.

Your post could have written by me. I have an appt with the cardiologist tomorrow for the very same reason that you posted.  Twice in the past 2 months I woke up in the morning with three hours worth of a PVC every third beat.  My heart was not beating faster or slower than normal, but every third beat was a PVC, like clockwork.

Also, after cardio workouts I tend to get up to 12 PVCs in a row.

Good luck.  I'm right there with you!
