There are many reasons why a Dr would decide to implant a pacemaker. For example, if a person is having symptoms associated with a slow heart rate then a pacemaker would be suggested as a treatment option.
I suffer from recurrentRecurrent cystitis afib and my EP, after many failed therapies, suggested a pacemaker implant and later an AV Nodal ablation. Although this would not cure the afib, it would stop the rapid ventricular response.
If during an ablation, the patient develops heart block from damage to the AV Node or bundle branches then the Dr would most likely implant a pacemaker.
