Pacemaker/Dizzy

Pacemaker/Dizzy

I got a pacemaker about 8 months ago, after being treated for arrhythmia for about 12 years.  Started off rough with bad shoulder and chest pain on left side... Then that cleared up. I felt good the first few weeks,Went in for a pace check and they adjusted it down 2 points from 62 to 60. It is a 2 wire Medtronic. When they do a pace check, they say it is working fine.( BP and HR is ok too.) Since then  I have dizziness that lasts 1-3 days at a time and feel very weak at those times..Also feel like I  will fall over if I make a quick move or try to lean over. This is entirely new   I never felt like this before the PM.   A while back I asked the Cardiologist about this,, he said We can't fix everything. I was very active before this and now cannot drive safely or enjoy family time etc, when this happens. Can this be helped? I am very frustrated and have bouts of depression ( never had before). margw6

Margw6,

I am sorry to hear about the problems that you have been having since your pacemaker was put it in. The dizziness that you have been having sounds as if it potentially could be related to low blood pressure. It would be a good idea to get a blood pressure machine and check your blood pressure when you are having these episodes as it may shed some light on the problem. I would also check your blood pressure three times in a row (separated by about 3 minutes) in the lying, sitting and standing position.

Another thing to remember is that pacemakers are simply a backup battery/electrical system for the heart. As such, they make sure that the heart beats as it should but won't affect things like blood pressure.

I hope that this helps and you that you will start to feel better soon.
