Pacemaker Sensation

by Guenter, Feb 07, 2004 12:00AM
I have a permanent dual chamber pacemaker.  It was implanted in May of 03. Since that time I could feel mode switches but recently I feel twitching sensations in my abdomen and a hiccup type of sensation. There is also a pounding sensation with each heart beat and a rise and fall of my chest wall.  What if anything, is the significance of that? It has been quite annoying.  The rate is fairly consistent at about 79.   I do have PVCs but for the most part I am dual chamber paced.  My underlying rhythm is a sinus node dysfunction..brady arrhhythmia.

Guenter,

Thanks for the post.

Q1:"What if anything, is the significance of that?"

It sounds like you have intermittent diaphragmatic and/or pectoral stimulation from the pacer.  This should be evaluated, as it may indicate migration of one of the pacer leads.  Also, it can be uncomfortable (as you have noticed).

See your doctor or device clinic -- they should know what to do.

Good luck.

Have you visited the implantable.com site??  They have great message boards for people with pacemakers or ICD's.  Good luck.

Information is only as good as those providing it.  I appreciate the information provided by the MDs at this site.  I am new to this world but what I am looking for is professional expertise, not just opinions.
