Pacemaker battery replacement -

My mother is 95 years old, in fairly good health other than pacemaker.  Her doctor has decided that her battery is no longer worknig.  It was replaced in 2002.  At that time she had a difficult time recuperating from the anesthesia and had complications due to a pre-existing blood disease - ITP - low platelet count.  Is there a way to replace the battery without putting her under general anesthesia?

Yes, pulse generator replacement does not require general anesthesia in 99% of patients. It simply requires good local anesthesia, and some light general sedation. ITP should not be a contraindication unless her platelets are very low, such as less than 50k.
