Pacemaker dependent

What happens when my pacemaker is disconnected to be replaced by a new one at end of battery life?

From what I understand (which isnt much), if you are 100% dependent on it then they will hook up a temporary one while they change it. If you are not 100% dependent on it, then you will experience the symptoms you had prior to having one implanted.

Sorry, sent it too soon. When I say you will experience your old symptoms, I mean that your heart will beat they way it did when you had one put in. If it was in the 40s, it would most likely beat there. You can google it for more info while you wait for someone to respond that has experienced this.

I have been totally dependent on pacemaker.  When it was put in my pulse was 23 & dropping.  This was ten years ago.  Had appointment, I thought was at 9 a.m.  The surgeon thought it was at 10 a.m.  I was in waiting room and it quit on me.  Thanks to an alert volunteer he went back and told them I was in real bad shape.  They came & got me and got me on a place I could lay down.  That is the last thing I remember but when I was woke up I had a new pacemaker and was fine.  My point is make sure every get every thing scheduled correctly before it starting to quit and you will be fine.  Best of wishes to you.
