Pacemakers

by Darren, Sep 10, 1999 12:00AM
I am suffering from symptomatic bradycardia and am due for a pacemaker in a month or so. I understand that some pacemakers can pace according to the needs of the body based on feedback from certain sensors. My question is can a pacemaker pace for tension. During stress or tension (such as a scary movie for example) I can start to feel waves of nausea and have noticed that my pulse rate does not alter. I assume this nausea is due to my heart rate not rising as would be expected normally. Can a pacemaker cure this ? (I cannot tell you why I have bradycardia as my cardiologists do not know - I am a 29yr old healthy male with no thyroid or heart conductivity problems)

I do not expect that a pacemaker will help the particular situation you describe. Pacemaker sensors can detect breathing and muscle activity and temperature, but cannot detect tension or stress per se.
